As Nigeria marks its 64th anniversary of independence, Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate from the recent Edo State governorship election, has appealed to the judiciary to uphold fairness and hold accountable those involved in electoral irregularities.

Ighodalo conveyed this message in his Independence Day address to the citizens of Edo State. The statement was disseminated by the Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) and was signed by Erhabor Emokpae in Benin City on Tuesday.

In his message, the PDP candidate encouraged Nigerians to remain resilient in the face of the numerous challenges the country has encountered since gaining independence from Great Britain in 1960.

He emphasized the importance of an impartial judiciary as it prepares to confront what he described as the most audacious electoral fraud in Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999.

“As we commemorate the 64th anniversary of our beloved nation, I address you with a heavy heart yet an unwavering spirit. This year’s celebration is overshadowed by recent events that have left many in despair.

“The shocking electoral fraud we witnessed serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles our ancestors endured for the rights and freedoms we cherish today.

“To my supporters in Edo State and beyond, I implore you to remain steadfast. Our quest for a prosperous Edo and a better Nigeria is far from complete.

“Every obstacle we face is just a stepping stone on our journey toward realizing our vision of a fair, just, and equitable society.

“Let us not be disheartened by the challenges that threaten our shared dreams. Instead, let us come together under the principles of integrity, resilience, and the unwavering belief that the people’s will must triumph.

“As we ponder the sacrifices made for our freedom, let us also recommit ourselves to nurturing a thriving democracy.

“Together, we will carve a path toward a brighter future for Edo State and all of Nigeria. Through unity and determination, we shall rise,” he concluded.
