The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially rejected the results of the governorship election held on November 16 in Ondo State, alleging widespread irregularities and collusion by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The election saw Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared the victor with 366,781 votes, while PDP’s Ajayi Agboola received 117,845 votes.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Ayo Fadaka, the Special Adviser to Agboola, the PDP accused INEC of actions that they believe undermined the integrity of the electoral process.
“Democracy cannot flourish in an environment where ongoing criminal activities are facilitated by the very agency responsible for safeguarding our rights to vote,” the statement asserted.
The PDP further claimed to have identified multiple instances of electoral misconduct that they argue distorted the will of the electorate. “We have uncovered numerous actions that have compromised the electoral aspirations of the people,” the statement continued.
Determined to contest the APC’s victory, the party announced its intention to pursue legal action, considering it the only viable path to reclaim what they describe as a stolen mandate.
“We remain hopeful that both human effort and divine intervention will lead us to justice,” the statement concluded.
