In the October 5, 2024 local government elections held in Akwa Ibom State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) achieved a remarkable victory by claiming 30 out of 31 chairmanship positions, leaving only one seat for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) announced the results on Sunday, confirming that the APC managed to secure just one local government area.

With the elections successfully conducted, preparations are underway for the inauguration of the newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen, scheduled for Monday, October 7, 2024, at 8 AM. The ceremony will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo, the state capital.

This information was conveyed in a press release signed by Enobong Uwah, the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government (SSG).

Governor Umo Eno is set to officiate the swearing-in ceremony in the presence of distinguished guests. During a speech at the All Nations Christian Ministry in Eket, Eno emphasized the importance of promptly inaugurating the democratically elected officials to facilitate swift development across the local government areas in the state.

“The election concluded yesterday, and results are coming in. We will be swearing in the new chairmen tomorrow at 8 AM. We appreciate the contributions of those who have served; they have performed admirably,” he stated.

He also noted, “The timeline we negotiated with the Federal Government extended until October, and since it is now October, we must quickly swear in the chairmen so they can start receiving their allocations and effectively serve their communities.”
