The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong faith in the success of its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, following Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Edo State.
In a statement released on Sunday, the PDP stated its commitment to securing a win for its candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State in November.
The party emphasized that its members are dedicated to fostering effective governance and upholding democratic principles.
On Saturday, the PDP had issued a warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding potential vote manipulation favoring the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The information available to us suggests that the APC is exerting pressure on the INEC Chairman and the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to halt the collation process, creating an opportunity to manipulate the INEC Portal and substitute actual results from the Polling Units with doctored figures benefiting the APC,” the statement read.
Furthermore, the PDP claimed that the APC is pressuring the military to withdraw from their operational posts, allowing the party to deploy armed groups to disrupt and tamper with the collation process.
The party firmly cautioned both INEC and the APC, stating, “The people of Edo State have access to legitimate results from Polling Units across the region. Any attempt to alter these results will escalate the already volatile situation and lead to serious repercussions for those involved.”
On Sunday, the PDP shared on its X account, “Building on the success of the Ballot Box Revolution during the Edo State Governorship Election, our Party is ready to replicate this victory in the upcoming Ondo State Gubernatorial Election on November 16, 2024. We remain committed to advancing democratic ideals, good governance, and the voice of the people.”
The PDP intends to continue grassroots mobilization efforts, enhancing its local presence to engage voters and promote its candidate, Agboola Ajayi.
The focus will be on highlighting Ajayi’s vision for progress in Ondo State, collaborating with stakeholders, and involving community leaders to ensure a transparent and fair election in November.
