In a move aimed at uniting its members, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially established a 25-member national reconciliation committee, led by former Osun State governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. This comes four months after the party’s announcement to create a reconciliation team to address internal conflicts.
Following a heated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in April, the PDP decided to revamp its Party Disciplinary and Reconciliation Committee to enhance its cohesion moving forward.
The appointment of Oyinlola, despite rumors that former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki would take the helm—having previously led a similar committee during the 2023 presidential race—signals a strategic choice for the party.
This newly formed committee is crucial as the PDP prepares for upcoming congresses, leading to next month’s NEC meeting that will determine the new national chairman of the party.
The party has faced notable internal disputes, particularly in Benue and Kogi States, alongside significant defections in Imo and Abia States.
Alongside Oyinlola, former Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo will serve as the committee’s secretary. The committee also includes a diverse group of members such as Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, Alhaji Bello Tafidan Gusau, and Senator Tunde Ogbeha, among others.
In a statement regarding the committee’s formation, the PDP’s national publicity secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized the need for party leaders and members to stay dedicated to the PDP’s vision and principles for the greater good of both the party and the nation. He announced that the committee’s inauguration date will be communicated soon.
