The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State is witnessing a surge of support for its gubernatorial candidate, Asue Ighodalo, as more stakeholders rally behind his campaign ahead of the September 21 contest.

In a recent development, a member of the PDP in Edo State, who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed to journalists in Abuja that several party members who were previously opposed to Ighodalo have now expressed their backing for him.

This show of support comes in the wake of the suspension of Chief Dan Orbih, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South South), by the National Working Committee (NWC) due to allegations of anti-party activities. Orbih’s suspension is pending further investigation of these allegations.

The party insider emphasized that it is crucial not to work against the party’s interests, especially during such a significant election.

Those party members who continue to oppose both the party and its chosen candidate are perceived as pursuing their own personal agendas and engaging in an ego-driven power struggle. The anonymous source stressed that they can no longer align themselves with such behavior.

The original agreement within the party was to support whichever candidate emerged as the nominee. However, when Asue Ighodalo secured the candidacy, some individuals expressed their discontent without providing substantial reasons other than their personal desire for the position.

Despite efforts to reconcile and find common ground, these dissenting voices persist in working against the party, failing to recognize that true power lies in the hands of a higher authority.

The anonymous party member made it clear that they cannot continue to undermine the party’s unity. As loyal members of the PDP, they believe in putting aside personal interests and supporting the party’s overall objectives.

They emphasized that a mark of a true party member is the ability to rise above individual concerns and stand united in the interest of the party. As part of the Legacy group, they stressed the importance of setting aside personal ambitions and fully supporting the chosen candidate.
