Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who chairs the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, has shed light on the ongoing situation regarding the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and why he has not faced suspension from the party.

There have been increasing calls from some PDP leaders for Wike’s suspension or expulsion due to his perceived opposition to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 elections. Additionally, Wike’s contentious relationship with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has resulted in rifts within the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).

In an interview, Mohammed clarified that any action against Wike would require the involvement of the NWC. He emphasized, “We, as governors, hold significant influence, but the Board of Trustees is merely advisory and does not possess decision-making authority. This is why we are focused on resolving the situation, not because we oppose Wike.”

He further expressed his willingness to welcome Wike back into the PDP, stating, “Even if Wike had officially joined the APC, I would still advocate for his return to the PDP because he is a friend. After all, several individuals have left the PDP and later returned to hold important positions.”
