The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded its former presidential candidate and ex-Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, as a dedicated and selfless leader.
In a statement released on Monday, the party characterized Atiku as a humble and community-focused individual. This message, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, came as the PDP extended warm birthday wishes to Atiku, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to the progress of Nigeria.
The statement read, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) proudly celebrates one of the founding fathers of our esteemed party and former Vice President of Nigeria, H.E. Atiku Abubakar, GCON (Wazirin Adamawa), on his birthday today.
“Atiku Abubakar exemplifies selflessness, compassion, humility, and a people-oriented approach; he is a unifier, an honest politician, a democrat, and a global statesman who tirelessly dedicates his intellect, resources, and energy to fostering unity, stability, and economic growth in our beloved country.”
Ologunagba highlighted Atiku’s significant contributions while serving as Chairman of the National Economic Council during the Obasanjo/Atiku-led PDP administration from 1999 to 2007, a period marked by remarkable national productivity and economic growth.
He noted, “Nigerians recognize Atiku Abubakar’s exemplary record of service, especially during his tenure, which helped propel our nation to become one of the fastest-growing economies globally.”
The statement also pointed out that Atiku’s leadership qualities garnered substantial support in the 2019 and 2023 elections, but external undemocratic influences thwarted his presidency.
“His exceptional leadership qualities earned him massive votes from a diverse range of Nigerians in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, yet undemocratic forces hindered his rightful claim to the presidency, contributing to the current challenges facing our nation.”
The PDP commended Atiku for his resilience and dedication to good governance, economic prosperity, accountability, equity, justice, fairness, and the rule of law for the welfare of all Nigerians.
“On this special day, the PDP family prays for Almighty Allah to bestow upon Atiku Abubakar greater wisdom, good health, and strength in his continued service to our nation and humanity.”
