The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has issued a strong appeal for members to prioritize peace and uphold high standards as they approach the upcoming elections.
This message was conveyed by Sunday Bisi, the chairman of Osun PDP, in a personally signed statement on Friday.
The appeal comes as the state PDP prepares to hold primary elections for candidates seeking local council positions on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Voting will take place across all 332 wards in Osun State.
Additionally, the party’s chairmanship primary election is set to occur on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the headquarters of the 30 local governments within the state.
Meanwhile, The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has announced Saturday, February 22, 2025, as the date for local government elections.
These primaries are crucial for selecting chairmanship and councilorship candidates in the 30 constitutionally recognized local government areas of the state.
Bisi urged all aspirants and their supporters to work harmoniously with the electoral officers and security personnel overseeing the primaries. He cautioned that the State Working Committee would respond firmly to any incidents of violence that may arise during or after the elections.
The statement emphasized, “I encourage supporters of all our party’s candidates to adhere strictly to the laws and guidelines governing the primaries. There is absolutely no place for violence in a family like that of the PDP, particularly during such a constitutional event.”
He assured that the party’s leadership has established the necessary measures to ensure a seamless process, in line with directives from their leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, during the recent stakeholders meeting.
Bisi expressed confidence that the primaries would yield the best candidates, positioning the PDP for victory in the upcoming local government elections.
“As a party committed to discipline and the rule of law, any aspirants who fail to comply with the party’s guidelines, electoral laws, or the nation’s constitution will face disqualification, irrespective of the circumstances,” the statement concluded.
