The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has called for calm among its supporters, urging them not to overreact to recent appointments made by Governor Agbu Kefas.
The party’s appeal comes amidst criticism over the reappointment of veteran politicians by Governor Kefas to serve in various roles.
The state party spokesperson, Andetarang Irammae, addressed journalists in Jalingo, emphasizing that the party and the governor were aware of the concerns raised by some party members.
He assured party loyalists that their contributions to the party’s electoral successes in the 2023 elections were recognized and appreciated.
Irammae acknowledged the disappointment expressed by party chieftain Hassan Kona, who had hoped for more opportunities for the state’s youth.
He explained that while Kona’s views were respected, it was important not to create unnecessary tension, as political power ultimately comes from God.
He further explained that Kona, like many other dedicated party members, had hoped for a role in the administration but emphasized that appointments had to be made gradually and fairly.
Irammae urged patience and support for the governor’s prerogative in making appointments, noting that the appointees were experienced individuals who would contribute positively to the state’s development.
Regarding upcoming party congresses, Irammae assured members that the party was committed to organizing free and fair congresses at all levels.
He explained that the congresses, initially scheduled to begin last week, were postponed for two weeks due to Ramadan and to allow those on pilgrimage to Mecca to participate.
In conclusion, the PDP spokesperson commended Governor Kefas for his efforts in improving security in the state, citing a decrease in banditry attacks and the return of internally displaced persons to their farms.
He called on the people of Taraba State to continue supporting and praying for the success of Governor Kefas’ administration.
