The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the newly formed Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to maintain independence and transparency while overseeing local government elections.
This call was made by the PDP Chairman in Anambra, Mr. Chigozie Igwe, during a statement in Awka on Thursday, following the establishment of the new ANSIEC.
According to reports from NAN, Governor Chukwuma Soludo recently inaugurated a six-member board for ANSIEC, with Magistrate Chinelo Osakwe appointed as its chairperson.
Igwe expressed his support for the formation and inauguration of the electoral body, emphasizing the need for it to uphold the values of transparency, fairness, and impartiality throughout the electoral process. He stated, “The PDP in Anambra urges ANSIEC to guarantee that all eligible voters can participate in the electoral process without facing intimidation or harassment.”
He further asserted that the party would not tolerate any form of manipulation or rigging in the forthcoming local government elections, declaring that the PDP is strategically prepared to secure a significant victory in the elections.
The PDP chairman conveyed confidence in the party’s potential to dominate council positions once the elections are held. He proclaimed that the PDP is the preferred choice among the populace in Anambra and reassured that the party would remain dedicated to democratic principles, ensuring that the will of the people prevails.
