The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government to urgently revise its policies that are negatively impacting the lives of Nigerians. This statement was made by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja during the first day of the citizen-led hunger protests occurring in major cities across the country.

Ologunagba stated that the ongoing nationwide protests could have been avoided if the APC-led government had shown humility, sensitivity, and a genuine commitment to addressing the citizens’ hardships caused by poorly implemented policies.

The PDP reminded Nigerians that it has repeatedly offered advice to the APC government regarding the state of the economy, most recently on June 6, 2024, urging President Tinubu to heed the concerns of the populace.

“There is hunger and destitution in the land. The reaction of hungry people is better imagined! Mr President, please act now,” Ologunagba quoted from a previous statement.

Regrettably, the PDP noted, these recommendations were ignored, leading to the current crisis.

“It is alarming that instead of engaging Nigerians and addressing their concerns, the APC allegedly recruited hoodlums to instigate violence to justify a clampdown and the killing of innocent Nigerians,” Ologunagba continued.

He emphasized the dire situation, stating, “The APC is completely insensitive to the fact that more than 120 million Nigerians have become destitute and can no longer afford their daily meals and other necessities of life as the poverty rate soars to over 40% because of the life-discounting policies of the APC administration.”

The PDP further asserted that Nigerians expect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to personally address the nation, announce significant policy revisions, and launch an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of subsidy and palliative funds.

By calling for immediate and effective action, the PDP hopes to alleviate the severe hardships facing the Nigerian populace and restore confidence in the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens.
