The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to speak to the nation in response to the widespread #Endbadgovernance protests. They find his silence troubling and believe it has increased public unrest.
Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, released a statement on Saturday, pressing the president to quickly address key issues such as high petroleum prices, the falling naira, and other economic challenges.
Press Release:
Protest: PDP Criticizes Tinubu for Not Addressing the Nation
Demands Action to Lower Fuel Prices and Stabilize the Naira
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticizes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for not addressing the nation despite the severe protests happening across Nigeria.
“PDP demands that President Tinubu urgently speak to Nigerians about steps to lower petroleum prices, stop the naira from falling, and tackle other critical economic problems to revive the productive sector, create jobs, and bring stability.
“Our party is concerned that President Tinubu’s silence sends a dangerous message and raises fears that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government doesn’t care about the citizens’ struggles and the country’s dire situation.
“It is deeply troubling that President Tinubu remains silent while Nigerians protest on the streets, seeking good governance, protection, security, and welfare—the main roles of government.
“The world watches in horror as APC-controlled security forces attack, shoot, and kill unarmed protesters. Allegations have also surfaced that APC-backed thugs are committing violence against innocent Nigerians.
“Our party calls on President Tinubu to break his silence, address the nation immediately, and reassure citizens by focusing on reducing the cost of petroleum and food items.
“PDP insists that with smart, transparent management of resources, economic strengths, and refining capabilities, petrol should not cost more than N200 per liter in Nigeria, especially with strategic investments in gas production.
“President Tinubu should also begin recovering over N50 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders, lower tariffs on essential goods, cut governance costs, review luxury spending, and direct recovered funds to programs benefiting Nigerians.
“Additionally, PDP calls for a thorough investigation into reports of unarmed Nigerians being killed by rogue security officers and urges security agencies to act professionally while protecting citizens.
“PDP urges Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding in their quest for a responsive and people-centered government, which has been lacking since APC came to power in 2015.”
