The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a firm warning to factional leaders within the party, signaling the potential involvement of security agencies to enforce compliance and uphold internal order amidst ongoing conflicts.

This was disclosed during a press briefing on Monday by the party’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga.

Manga addressed the media to shed light on the recent internal turmoil, which includes the suspension of several high-ranking party officials, notably National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN.

The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) stated that these suspensions were necessary to allow investigations into allegations of “abuse of office and insubordination.”

“We must ensure that actions are guided by the party’s constitution, not personal interests or sentiments,” Manga remarked, urging party members to avoid any behavior that could harm the party’s future.

He emphasized that unity is essential to preserving the party, warning that continued internal discord could threaten the PDP’s stability.

Expressing disappointment with the reactions of the suspended officials, Manga accused them of handling the matter unprofessionally, adopting what he referred to as a “motor park” approach.

He clarified that the suspensions were procedural and intended to give the affected officials an opportunity to clear their names.

Manga also condemned the spread of misinformation regarding the legitimacy of the leadership changes, calling on members to support the acting leadership and focus on resolving the party’s internal challenges.

In a stern tone, Manga hinted at a possible escalation in the party’s response, declaring that if necessary, security agencies would be called upon to enforce party rules and address violations of a subsisting court order related to the disputes.

“In light of the reckless violation of a subsisting court order, we are left with no choice but to consider involving security agencies to ensure the rule of law is upheld,” Manga warned, signaling the party’s readiness to take decisive action.

As the PDP strives to maintain its position as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, Manga urged members to rally behind Acting National Chairman Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum and prioritize unity.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its core values of democracy and governance, calling on all stakeholders to work toward resolving the ongoing crisis.
