Former National Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has raised concerns about the internal strife within the party, attributing it to the personal ambitions of some of its members. George warned that these self-serving ambitions are creating significant obstacles to meaningful reconciliation and could prolong the ongoing crisis within the PDP.
In his candid remarks, George stated, “Elders of the party have to come into the room to resolve the personalized ambitions of people. That is what is killing our party.” He emphasized that the party’s unity is being compromised by individuals prioritizing their own goals over the collective good.
George, a retired Commodore, also reflected on the foundational principles of the PDP, recalling the vision of the party’s founding fathers, led by the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
He noted that they set aside ethnic and religious differences to establish a party that promoted national inclusion and unity by dividing Nigeria into six zones and ensuring that top national positions were distributed among these zones. This strategy was designed to foster a sense of belonging across the country.

However, George expressed concern that the current focus on personal ambition could lead to feelings of marginalization and exclusion, threatening the party’s ability to maintain its foundational ideals.
In addition to his concerns about the PDP, George also shared his thoughts on the broader state of the nation, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to undertake significant restructuring efforts to promote true federalism in Nigeria. He believes that such reforms are necessary to address the nation’s pressing challenges and ensure equitable governance for all citizens.
