In a recent statement, Mr. Peter Obi, the prominent leader and presidential candidate of the Labour Party during the 2023 elections, has urged party members to avoid labeling Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the party’s presidential campaign, as a traitor.

Obi took to his verified social media account to emphasize that differing opinions from a loyal supporter do not equate to disloyalty. He regards Okonkwo as a steadfast ally, despite their recent disagreements.

“I recently came across my dear brother Kenneth Okonkwo’s open letter where he outlined his contrasting views regarding the recent challenges within our party. This prompted a variety of reactions,” Obi noted.

He added, “I want to make it abundantly clear that Barrister Okonkwo is still my cherished brother and a reliable ally. I firmly advise against calling him a mole or making disparaging comments about him. Kenneth has been by my side through many trials, and his loyalty is invaluable.”

Obi emphasized that differences of opinion are a natural aspect of any organization or movement. He stressed the importance of maintaining respect and civility in discussions, even when disagreements arise.

“Having alternative perspectives doesn’t make someone an adversary. It’s vital to engage in meaningful dialogue rather than resorting to personal attacks or derogatory statements,” he stated.

The former governor of Anambra expressed his belief that he prefers engaging with those who offer differing viewpoints because it fosters growth and understanding. “As a leader, the ability to learn and listen is essential. I welcome diverse opinions and aim to either persuade those with differing views or embrace their ideas if they prove to be more effective,” he explained.

Obi encouraged all advocates for a New Nigeria to stay determined, resilient, and focused, urging them to refrain from negativity towards Kenneth Okonkwo or any individual who may disagree with their perspectives or strategies.

He concluded with a clarion call to his supporters: “Let us be clear and straightforward—unity, respect, and civility must guide our actions, particularly in times of disagreement and diversity of thought.”
