Peter Obi, who was the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has recently called for the arrest and legal action against those spreading genocidal threats against the Igbo people in Lagos.

Recently, social media has been buzzing with a hashtag that demands the Igbo people leave Lagos and other states in the South-West. This has sparked significant concern. Peter Obi, who previously served as the governor of Anambra State, has strongly condemned this ultimatum.

He called it extremely troubling and emphasized the need for immediate investigation and action. “We must act right away to find, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for this dangerous agenda. This will help prevent others from considering similar threats that could harm our national security and unity,” Obi stated.

He continued to express his alarm over the threats being made on social media, specifically on the platform X, which are urging the Igbo community to move away. “I want to make it clear that such statements are a threat to our unity and go against our Constitution. Our Constitution ensures that every Nigerian has the right to live and work anywhere in the country without fear. It is crucial that those in power speak out against this kind of divisive language,” Obi warned.

Obi is calling on all Nigerians to come together against this harmful rhetoric and to promote unity, tolerance, and understanding. He stressed that “Our future relies on our ability to live and work together peacefully.”

He also urged the government and security agencies to act quickly to protect this essential principle and to make sure every Nigerian can live without fear of discrimination or persecution. “We must not let our current difficulties drive us apart,” Obi concluded.
