Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has donated N50 million to support flood victims in Borno State. This contribution aims to aid residents affected by the recent devastating floods.

Obi made the donation during a visit to Borno State, where he expressed his condolences to the state government over the disaster.

Accompanying him were Senator Nenadi Usman, the National Chairman of the Labour Party’s caretaker committee, along with other prominent party members, including Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmad and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko.

A statement from Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), signed by Ibrahim Umar, detailed that the team made an initial donation of N50 million to the state government’s emergency relief fund. Their visit included meetings with Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi.

The Labour Party delegation also toured the Bank of the North spare parts market, where traders suffered significant losses, and visited the IDP camp at Government College. They extended their condolences to a woman who tragically lost her newborn twins in the flood.

Obi emphasised the Labour Party’s commitment to supporting those affected by the floods, which have submerged over half of Maiduguri and displaced thousands. He reassured the people of Borno that they are not alone and that the party is dedicated to helping them rebuild and recover.

“We stand with the people of Borno during this difficult time,” Obi stated. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families. We are committed to alleviating their suffering and hardship. I also extend my gratitude to the Borno State government for their efforts and support.”

Obi concluded with a prayer for those who lost their lives, a swift recovery for the injured, and blessings for Borno State and Nigeria.
