Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president in the 2023 elections, has expressed his deep sadness over the killing of a Catholic priest in Anambra State. He stated that the ongoing violence against hardworking individuals is truly heartbreaking.

According to Thepaan, Rev Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, who managed the College of Nursing Sciences at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala, was shot along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway on Thursday.

In his response on social media, Obi called for an end to the ongoing violence in the country. He wrote, “I woke up to the sad news of Rev Fr. Tobias Okonkwo’s tragic death. He was killed by unknown criminals last night in Ihiala, Anambra. The constant killings of our productive men and women by these violent individuals are beyond heartbreaking.”

He added that in many areas of the country, the blood of Nigerians taken too soon by insecurity continues to cry out for justice.

Obi offered his condolences to the victim’s family and the school community. “I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family, the proprietor, the management, staff, and students of the College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala. May God grant him eternal rest and help us all cope with this great loss. May God heal our wounded nation,” he concluded.
