Peter Obi has expressed deep concern over the current state of Nigeria’s democracy under President Bola Tinubu, cautioning the electorate in Ondo against accepting “stolen money” from the ruling party during the upcoming governorship election on November 16.

“We refuse to accept money that has been taken from us through corruption, only to have them continue their thievery. Our goal is to end this cycle of stealing and begin the process of rebuilding,” declared the former governor of Anambra State. “We aim to shift this nation from a focus on consumption to one of production, thereby creating jobs. That’s the essence of our campaign.”

Obi further urged the Ondo voters to reject the temptations of vote buying and selling, emphasizing that the funds offered are simply proceeds from the very corruption they seek to eradicate.

These remarks were made on Monday in Akure, while Obi was campaigning for the Labour Party’s candidate, Sola Ebiseni.

The Labour Party leader criticized the current administration, asserting that “democracy in Nigeria is in distress,” and accused the APC of transforming “democracy into a tool for transitional politics.”

“However,” Obi emphasized, “we remain committed to our campaign, encouraging Nigerians to embrace the opportunity to build a new Nigeria. A Nigeria where anyone, regardless of their background, has the chance to succeed; a country that offers equal opportunities; a nation where we can lift people out of poverty, ensuring our children receive an education and our healthcare systems function effectively.”

Sola Ebiseni, the Labour Party’s governorship hopeful, highlighted that the party’s “programs, policies, and projects are visible throughout the state,” asserting that “wherever you go in Ondo, you’ll see initiatives reflected in the color of my attire.”

He continued, “I am intentionally dressed in orange, the color of the Labour Party, which symbolizes our projects. Our presidential candidate is here to lend support and to affirm that the LP is the party that the people should vote for.”
