In a stunning display of sarcasm, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, took the opportunity to throw some veiled jabs at President Bola Tinubu, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, and former Director-General of his campaign council, Doyin Okupe.
During an interview, when asked to honestly assess the Tinubu administration, Obi responded with dripping sarcasm, saying, “Oh, President Tinubu has done a fantastic job of keeping his campaign promises and continuing the legacy of President Buhari. Just look at how everything has gone up!”
But Obi didn’t stop there. When it came to the recent criticisms he has faced from Soyinka, Okupe, and Anambra States governor Charles Soludo, he took on a condescending tone. “Ah, Wole Soyinka, Doyin Okupe, and Soludo. They are like my fathers. You know, as a good son, I don’t like to comment when my fathers talk. I leave it to the people to make their own assessments.”
With a touch of irony, Obi added, “When I reach their esteemed age, I hope the younger generation will show me the same respect. I’ll position myself to be respected, just like they are.” He emphasized that, despite his sarcastic remarks, he is more than fit to be the president of the nation.
He pointed out his competence in both private and public service, boasting about his success as one of the most accomplished businessmen in Nigeria. And he didn’t shy away from highlighting his education and background, confidently asserting that he can stand and compete against anyone.
