The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has partnered with the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals to ensure the availability of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) during the yuletide season and beyond.

Dr. Billy Gillis Hary, PETROAN’s National President, led the association’s negotiation team to a strategic business meeting with Dangote Refinery on December 2, 2024. The meeting, held at the refinery complex in Lagos, resulted in a landmark agreement to avert fuel shortages.

This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Dr. Joseph Obele.

In the statement, PETROAN’s National President commended the Vice President of Dangote Group and Managing Director of Dangote Refinery, Mr. Devakumar V.G. Edwin, for his cooperation and efforts. “The strategies deployed so far to make petroleum products available to all Nigerians throughout the end-of-year festivities and beyond are commendable,” the statement noted.

The agreement included the establishment of a buyer-seller relationship, the reservation of monthly volumes for PETROAN, favorable payment modalities, and a competitive pricing rate. While details of the agreement were not disclosed, the association emphasized that the public would benefit greatly in terms of product availability and affordability.

PETROAN expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the discussions. “The measures we have implemented, coupled with the commencement of production at the Port Harcourt refinery and the successful negotiation with Dangote Refinery, will ensure consistent fuel supply during and after the festive season,” the statement read.

The association credited its Distribution Technical Committee for devising a “zero-fuel scarcity strategy” to facilitate seamless travel for Nigerians during the holidays.

PETROAN dismissed concerns about potential fuel scarcity, urging Nigerians to avoid panic buying and the unsafe storage of petroleum products at home. The statement further appealed to stakeholders in the downstream sector to support the efforts of NNPC Retail Ltd and Dangote Refinery to sustain supply chains.

“We reassure Nigerians of our preparedness to ensure the consistent availability of petroleum products during the festive period and beyond. All our retail outlets across the country have been placed on green alert to provide uninterrupted service,” the statement concluded.
