The Kano State police command announced the arrest of 392 individuals suspected of looting the NCC Industrial Park during Thursday’s nationwide hunger and hardship protest in Kano State.
The suspects were also implicated in the looting of the Kano High Court and other locations across the state on the same day.
Addressing journalists on Friday, police spokesman Abdullahi Kiyawa revealed that a large number of stolen items were recovered from the suspects.
The newly constructed NCC park, set for commissioning next week, was looted and set ablaze by hoodlums during the unrest.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes at the ICT center, with protesters seizing desktop computers, chairs, keyboards, and other valuable items before igniting the facility.
In response to the violence, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf declared a 24-hour curfew on Thursday.
“We are deeply concerned by the turn of events and are taking all necessary measures to restore order. I urge all residents to remain indoors as security agencies work to enforce the curfew,” Governor Yusuf stated.
