On Friday, President Bola Tinubu asserted his main focus amidst the challenging economic landscape in Nigeria.
While acknowledging the complexities of achieving national consensus on various issues, Tinubu elaborated on the recent surge in petrol prices during his interactions with Nigerians residing in China.
Reports indicated that the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, has escalated to between N897 and N1000.
Concluding his official engagements in China on Friday, Tinubu characterized his visit to Beijing, where he met with the Nigerian community, as “very good and successful.”
He attributed the recent hike in fuel prices to difficult decisions made by his administration. “You may have heard about the rising fuel costs in the past few days,” he remarked. “But can we do anything about it? Can we create infrastructure akin to what you see here, with reliable electricity and well-maintained roads?”
The President emphasized that the basic amenities enjoyed by citizens in China, such as consistent water supply and quality education, could also be accessible in Nigeria, contingent upon sacrifices made by the populace.
During his engagement with Nigerians in Beijing, as he wrapped up his trip, Tinubu reassured the diaspora of his dedication to providing effective leadership in the country.
He stated, “We aspire for our children to attend quality schools rather than rundown structures. Our educational system must be innovative, and we must foster an environment where businesses of all sizes can thrive.”
Tinubu concluded with a call to action, emphasizing that economic progress is a shared responsibility. “One economic decision influences another, and it is up to you to help build our nation. My role is to lead, and I am committed to fulfilling that role with a capable team by my side.”
