President Bola Tinubu has in a Speech emphasized the necessity for Nigeria to harness technology, innovation, and knowledge-driven opportunities to foster economic growth.

During the inauguration of the new Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) technology complex in Abuja, the President highlighted the complex’s seven essential components, which include a data center, a command and control center, and a visa approval center, among others.

President Tinubu explained that the center aims to establish a robust communication framework that connects pertinent agencies through collaborative technology within a secure information network.

He praised the dedication and leadership of all those involved in the project and expressed eagerness to witness its significant impact on the economy.

“From the outset of our administration, we pledged to implement innovative solutions throughout the government, including within the NIS. Today, we have fulfilled that promise and are making remarkable strides. Congratulations!” he stated.

He further noted, “By enhancing our immigration and air travel systems, we can unlock valuable economic opportunities. By March 2025, we aspire to roll out a completely revamped passport regime. Our passports are vital security documents that demand careful management.”

The President acknowledged Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, for his accomplishments, particularly in improving passport issuance, which has enhanced Nigeria’s global reputation.

Additionally, Mr. Tinubu commended Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller General of the NIS, and her team for their commitment to elevating the agency’s role as a vital security entity.

“I applaud you for your effective and prosperous leadership within the service. I have taken note of your efforts, and I am enthusiastic about the integration of security measures across air, land, and sea,” he remarked.

The President concluded by stating that the newly commissioned center would facilitate a cohesive communication network among relevant agencies. He added that the Visa Approval Center would serve as a comprehensive hub for visa applications, allowing for easier travel, business transactions, and fostering honest interactions between Nigeria and other nations.
