Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the resilience of Nigerian women while affirming his administration’s commitment to achieving gender equality across the nation.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Tinubu made these remarks during the “EMPOWER-HER: Nigeria for Women” event. This initiative, organized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in Abuja, focused on women’s farming health, empowerment, justice, entertainment, and fund-raising.

The President emphasized the importance of recognizing the obstacles women face, such as limited access to education and healthcare, gender-based violence, and economic inequality. He stated that addressing these issues is crucial for fostering positive change that will shape Nigeria’s future.

“It is essential for us to unite as a nation to dismantle these barriers and create avenues for women to thrive and achieve success,” he asserted.

Tinubu further highlighted the necessity of ensuring that women enjoy equal access to justice and are safeguarded against all forms of violence and discrimination.

“This requires enhancing our institutions, advocating for gender-sensitive policies, and backing women’s rights organizations,” he explained.

He stressed, “Empowering women is not solely for their benefit; it is vital for the whole nation. When women are empowered, families become stronger, communities flourish, and the country becomes more resilient.”

The President advocated for prioritizing investments in agricultural training and providing women with access to land and financial services. “This support will enable women farmers to enhance productivity, improve their livelihoods, and bolster Nigeria’s food security,” he noted.

The event, themed “Empower Her,” attracted dignitaries from both public and private sectors who gathered to support women’s initiatives.

Businessman Arthur Eze, during an interview with the press, called for increased backing for the Ministry of Women Affairs, led by Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, whom he praised as a champion for women’s causes.

Eze expressed his admiration for President Tinubu’s efforts to elevate the nation and its citizens, stating, “We pray for his continued strength to effect change in Nigeria.”

He also announced a generous donation of 100 million naira as a commitment to support Barr Kennedy-Ohaneye’s endeavors to improve the lives of women through the Women Affairs Foundation.
