President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Commends FCT Minister Wike, Vows to Sustain Infrastructure Investments
In a significant milestone for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the Southern Parkway project, a critical artery connecting major areas within Abuja. The event marked the president’s commitment to infrastructure development as a drive for economic growth and development in Nigeria.
During the inauguration, President Tinubu praised the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his diligence, vision, and commitment to transforming the nation’s capital. Describing Wike as a “good team leader” and “Mr. Projects,” the president acknowledged the minister’s efforts in completing the Southern Parkway project, which had been stalled for years.
“The completion of the Southern Parkway underscores our commitment to inclusive and sustainable development as we strive to build a world-class Capital City,” President Tinubu said. He emphasized that infrastructure development is a provider of jobs and an enabler of economic development and prosperity, and that his administration is dedicated to achieving these goals.
The Southern Parkway, which consists of 12 lanes in total, including two main carriageways of four lanes each and two service carriageways of two lanes each, was initially awarded in 2010 but was not completed until the intervention of the Tinubu administration. The project also includes the construction of four interchanges and eight bridges, as well as associated underground engineering facilities.
Addressing the significance of the project, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stated that the completion of the Southern Parkway will enhance traffic circulation around the city center, reducing delays and travel time, while also accelerating the development of the Southern Axis of the city, bringing improved socio-economic benefits to residents and other Nigerians.
In recognition of the president’s support and the project’s importance, the FCT Administration has resolved to name the Southern Parkway as “Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way.
President Tinubu’s assurance that his administration will not let down the FCT Minister he declared the strong partnership and collaborative efforts between the federal and local governments in driving the development of the nation’s capital.
