During the unveiling of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja, President Bola Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s creative sector as a vital element of the country’s global presence.

Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the President emphasized the significance of the creative economy as a foundational aspect of his government’s strategy for economic diversification.

In a statement released by the Vice-President’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, it was highlighted that the carnival plays a crucial role in elevating Nigeria’s stature within the global creative landscape.

Mr. Tinubu remarked, “This occasion goes beyond mere celebration; it embodies the essence of our identity as Nigerians—people rich in culture, artistry, vibrancy, and shared values. Our creativity continues to shine internationally, earning admiration and respect. This cultural heritage is the true definition of being Nigerian—proud, inventive, and resourceful. The President pointed out the economic benefits of the carnival, stressing that Nigeria’s creative industries are making substantial contributions to the national GDP.

He stated, “This carnival has evolved into a platform for celebrating our rich cultural heritage and has become a driving force behind our expanding creative economy. It has invigorated local industries, fostered cultural diplomacy, and significantly bolstered Nigeria’s status as a cultural powerhouse on the world stage.”

Mr. Tinubu also highlighted Nigeria’s dedication to cultural exchange, noting, “The participation of international guests at this event demonstrates that culture knows no borders. Cultural exchange allows us to build bridges of understanding, friendship, and shared humanity. At this carnival, we provide not just entertainment but a welcoming environment for our visitors.”
