President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to the late Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, who passed away at the age of 81 in July after a brief illness.
During a memorial service held in Iwuanyanwu’s honor, Tinubu, represented by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), praised Iwuanyanwu’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
“In his lifetime, Iwuanyanwu devoted his God-given resources to uplifting communities, friends, and the less fortunate,” NAN reported Tinubu as saying.
The President noted that as a nationalist, Iwuanyanwu played a significant role in nation-building by fostering unity and cooperation among various communities, ethnic groups, and religious affiliations.
Tinubu also highlighted that his administration has initiated bold economic strategies to ensure a secure future for the nation.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred to Iwuanyanwu as “a trailblazer.”
Speaking through Enyinnaya Abaribe, the senator from Abia South, Akpabio remarked that as a leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Iwuanyanwu was deeply committed to advancing national interests to improve Nigeria.
“He advocated for justice and equity with a strong sense of national pride,” he added.
Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma stated that Iwuanyanwu dedicated his life to the betterment of “mankind, the Igbo people, and Nigeria as a whole.”
“He envisioned a Nigeria where the Igbo and other tribes could coexist peacefully,” said the governor.
Uzodimma described Iwuanyanwu as a peacemaker, a lifesaver, a selfless leader, and a compassionate family man.
