President Bola Tinubu has called for a thorough review of the boards governing Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to ensure they reflect the country’s diverse federal character. This decision comes shortly after the Federal Ministry of Education announced the new board members for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The ministry named the chairpersons, pro-chancellors, and other board members, and scheduled an inauguration and retreat for the nominees on May 31. However, following public feedback, President Tinubu recognized concerns that some states were underrepresented in the nominations.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the review aims to address these concerns, ensuring a fair and balanced representation from all parts of the country. The President emphasized his commitment to upholding the constitutional principle of federal character, ensuring that the appointments adequately reflect Nigeria’s national diversity.
