Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed his belief that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will not succeed in his bid for the presidency of Nigeria in 2027.
In a post on his Facebook page, Igbokwe contended that Atiku’s ambitions for the upcoming election are not grounded in reality and suggested that he should instead consider a run in 2031.
He highlighted Atiku’s age as a potential obstacle in his quest for the presidency, noting that the political landscape in 2027 is unlikely to favor the Adamawa-born politician.
Igbokwe remarked, “Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is still grappling with the idea of becoming president of Nigeria in 2027.
“This ambition is not feasible, given all factors involved. He should aim for 2031 instead. Even then, his age may work against him.”
These comments from Igbokwe follow remarks made by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who indicated that no candidate from the North should challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
