A protester collapsed this morning during a demonstration in Jos, allegedly due to hunger.
The protest, which saw a large turnout, was organized to draw attention to the rising cost of living and the increasing rate of food insecurity in the region.
Eyewitnesses reported that the protester, identified as Abah, had been actively participating in the march when he suddenly fainted.
Fellow protesters quickly gathered around him, attempting to provide assistance. An emergency medical team arrived at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The organizers of the protest expressed their concern about the incident, highlighting it as a stark example of the very issues they were protesting against. “Abah’s collapse is a tragic reminder of the dire circumstances many Nigerians are facing. Hunger and poverty are pushing people to their limits,” said one of the organizers.
Local authorities have acknowledged the incident and urged for calm while promising to look into the grievances raised by the protesters. The demonstration, which started peacefully, was temporarily disrupted but later resumed after Abah was taken to the hospital.
Residents of Jos and surrounding areas have been increasingly vocal about the economic challenges they face, calling for immediate government intervention to alleviate the hardship. The protest today underscores the urgency of these issues and the desperate need for solutions.
