The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that protesters attacked the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) ‘s Digital Industrial Park (DIP) in Kano State.

Commissioner of Police Salma Dogo informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the generator house was set on fire and the office vandalized.

He assured that the police, along with other security agencies, have taken measures to protect residents and their properties.

The center, serving the northwestern region of Nigeria, was slated for commissioning on Wednesday, August 7. However, protesters invaded the center, looting state-of-the-art equipment worth billions of Naira and setting the generator room ablaze.

The DIP was established to support the federal government’s digital economy initiative by training young Nigerians in digital entrepreneurship. This center is one of six across the country’s geo-political zones, with this one dedicated to the northwest region.
