The #EndBadGovernance movement has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action by removing the current Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, from his position. The protesters believe this step is necessary after several demonstrators lost their lives due to the actions of security forces.

This demand was made during a candlelight vigil held to honor those who were killed. The event took place at the Rights House in Ikeja, Lagos State, where mourners gathered to remember the victims. The vigil was part of a larger three-day mourning period organized by the Youth Rights Campaign, which also hosted gatherings at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos.

Comrade Hassan Taiwo, the National Spokesperson of the Youth Rights Campaign, spoke passionately at the vigil. He insisted that the Inspector-General of Police must be dismissed, citing the deaths of more than 40 protesters since the #EndBadGovernance movement began on August 1. Taiwo argued that the continuation of Egbetokun’s tenure is unacceptable given the tragic loss of life attributed to police actions.

The protesters are firm in their stance, emphasizing that the removal of the IGP is a crucial step toward addressing the grievances of those who have suffered during these protests.
