People in Edo State are protesting because they are unhappy with the bad economy. These protests are allowed only in certain places across the three main areas of Edo State. One of these places is King Square in Benin City, which is in the southern part of Edo State.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Funsho Adegboye, made an announcement about this on Wednesday. He said that the police would act professionally and be polite to the protesters. They would also protect the people who are protesting peacefully. The police might even provide water and ambulances for them.
But the commissioner also warned that if people try to protest in places that are not allowed, it would be considered a crime and would be strongly discouraged. To keep everything organized, a special room has been set up at the police headquarters where people can give feedback and get updates.
On Thursday, areas outside the allowed protest spots were very quiet. For example, Upper Mission Road in the capital city, which is usually busy, was almost empty of people and vehicles between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning.
