The organizers of the ongoing protests against economic hardship and poor governance have declared their intention to continue their demonstrations today at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos.
This announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by Hassan Taiwo, Ayoyinka Oni, and Adegboyega Adeniji, representing the protest organizers.
The declaration follows a national address by President Tinubu earlier that day, where he recognized the grievances of the protesters and suggested they pause their demonstrations for a potential dialogue.
In their statement, the organizers expressed, “The President’s effort to speak to the nation is a significant win for our cause.
“Our bravery and determination to challenge the status quo have led to this acknowledgment. We have shown that no president is above the collective voice of the people.”
They emphasized their discontent with the president’s contradictory stance, stating, “It is unacceptable for the President to extend an olive branch while simultaneously threatening us. This inconsistency cannot stand.”
The organizers have invited young individuals and the wider community to join them at 7 a.m. on Monday at Gani Fawehinmi Park for the fifth consecutive day of protests.
