The #EndBadGovernance movement has declared its intention to hit the streets again in an ambitious 10 million-man march throughout Nigeria if President Bola Tinubu does not address their demands.
After a ten-day wave of protests dubbed “10 Days of Fury,” the demonstrators wrapped up their activities on Saturday. Although their efforts faced interruptions due to police raids on protest leaders’ homes and subsequent arrests, the activists rallied back, brandishing placards with slogans like “Rent should be monthly” and “Restore the corruption-free fuel subsidy.”
According to Reports, a key demand among the protesters is the reinstatement of the petrol subsidy, which they believe could bring fuel prices down to around N200 per litre. They are also advocating for a significant reduction in government expenses.
Sanusi Abiodun, the spokesperson for the protestors, stated, “Today is August 10, 2024. We previously announced our ’10 Days of Fury’ to combat bad governance in Nigeria. However, it has become evident that President Bola Tinubu is unwilling to listen to the voices of Nigerians or meet our demands.”
He continued, “While today marks the conclusion of our initial wave of protests, we are sending a clear message to the Nigerian government and President Tinubu: we will return unless he addresses our grievances. Next time, we will mobilize for a staggering 10 million-man march across the nation.”
In a televised address last Sunday, President Tinubu urged the protesters to cease their demonstrations and encouraged a constructive dialogue with the government instead of expressing their concerns through protests.
