Former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has rejected rumors circulating on social media that he has made a deal regarding a rotational presidency with Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

In a recent interview, Kwankwaso, who represented the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 presidential race, expressed his frustration over what he called false and bothersome claims.

He accused Abubakar’s camp of being behind the spread of this misinformation. Despite the allegations, he acknowledged that he was aware of discussions taking place between the former vice president and regional leaders, including religious figures, aimed at promoting this narrative.

Kwankwaso stated, “It truly angers me to learn that respected elders are spreading lies about an agreement that never took place. I was informed that around 45 clerics were gathered and misled with this fabricated story. I found this very disappointing.”

He added, “They were told that I had consented to a plan where Atiku would serve for four years, I would follow for another four years, and Peter Obi would take the next eight years. This is entirely untrue; no such agreement has ever been made.”

Kwankwaso also reflected on his departure from the PDP to join the NNPP, noting that he has found peace since leaving behind what he termed the “humiliation” he and his supporters experienced while in the PDP.

“These lies and deceits are exactly why we left. Myself, Peter Obi, Wike, and others all chose to walk away. Now, they come back asking us to assist those who previously humiliated us to achieve their objectives,” he concluded.
