The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Youth Province One, Lagos, has revealed that its free bus initiative cost over ₦63 million in fueling alone within seven weeks.
Pastor Leke Adeboye, in charge of the province, disclosed this on Saturday, highlighting the church’s effort to ease transportation costs for Nigerians amid economic challenges.
The initiative deployed 10 buses on key routes between Lagos and Ogun States, including FESTAC, CMS, Ikorodu, and Mowe. Each bus, carrying 80 passengers per trip, made two daily trips, five days a week, and transported over 56,000 commuters during the period.
The church also spent an additional ₦10 million on the welfare of drivers and volunteers, who used the downtime to share messages from RCCG’s daily devotional, Open Heavens.
The free service, open to Nigerians and non-Nigerians of all faiths and backgrounds, saved passengers an estimated ₦40,000 weekly. Pastor Adeboye emphasized that the initiative aimed to serve humanity without discrimination.
“Students, military personnel, law enforcement officers, and even area boys benefited. This project reflects our commitment to easing Nigerians’ financial burden,” Adeboye stated.
The buses operated from hubs like Mowe, Berger, and 7UP Car Park C near Redemption City to Lagos locations such as CMS, Victoria Island, and Lekki.
