The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has mandated that all candidates applying for tertiary education programmes in Nigeria must now use their National Identification Number (NIN) during registration, according to a statement released by JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, on Monday in Abuja.

This directive aims to curb fraudulent activities involving candidates’ records through unauthorized registration channels.

The registrar emphasized that prospective candidates in non-regular categories, including those applying to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Distance Learning, Part-time, and Sandwich programmes, must first create a profile code using their NIN before registering with JAMB.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson, further clarified: “This advisory applies to all concerned institutions and candidates seeking to pursue studies under the non-regular mode in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

In compliance with its enabling act, JAMB requires that all applicants provide their NIN while registering for any programme, regardless of whether it is regular or non-regular.”

Candidates in non-regular programmes are instructed to create their profile codes by sending their NIN from their unique phone numbers to either of JAMB’s designated sort codes (55019 or 66019).

Following the profile creation, candidates must proceed to a designated CBT Centre for registration. Subsequently, their details will appear on the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) of their chosen institution for non-regular admission consideration.

For previous candidates in non-regular programmes who have not yet integrated their NIN or unique phone number with JAMB, it is mandatory to create a profile using their respective NIN to access any of the Board’s services.

JAMB assures flexibility in the registration process for non-regular studies by keeping its platform accessible throughout the year.

Candidates falling under this category are advised to apply through JAMB before seeking admission from their preferred institutions using their JAMB registration numbers.

Additionally, they are required to pay a processing fee determined by their chosen institutions. The Board emphasizes that no candidate can alter data already submitted to JAMB through this process.
