Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, made a substantial donation of ₦105 million to the Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State, during a Sunday service.
The announcement was made at the church, where Rema expressed deep gratitude for the spiritual guidance and unwavering support he has received from the congregation over the years.
In a viral video from the service, Rema humbly said, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I believe it’s important to give back because the church has embraced me, prayed for me, and kept me strong in my faith.”
Rema’s donation included ₦40 million towards the church’s infrastructure, ₦20 million for the distribution of the Rhapsody of Realities devotional, and ₦25 million to enhance the facilities of the church’s teen ministry. Additionally, he committed ₦20 million to support widows within the church community.
The artist also shared a personal story about the church’s support during a difficult time in his life. He recalled, “When I was eight years old and lost my dad, we felt lost and abandoned. Everything we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone. But Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas of this church opened a shop for my mum, and that’s how she was able to care for us.”
Rema’s visit to Benin was part of his homecoming celebration, where he was also honored with a royal plaque by the Oba of Benin. The Oba welcomed the star to his palace ahead of Rema’s much-anticipated concert in the city.
