As the 2027 general elections approach, Reno Omokri, former media advisor to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has proclaimed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, stands as the foremost opposition leader in Nigeria.

Omokri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a past supporter of former vice president Atiku Abubakar in previous elections, expressed that any politician claiming to be a more significant opposition figure than Obi is simply living in a fantasy.

In a Facebook statement, Omokri praised Obi for his perseverance despite the challenges he has encountered.

He stated, “Peter Obi is undeniably the top opposition figure in Nigeria, no exceptions.”

“Anyone in any opposition party who believes they are greater than Obi at this moment is merely deluding themselves,” Omokri remarked, despite being known as a vocal critic of Obi.

He added, “Certain individuals in one or two opposition parties have already been sidelined by Obi, though they remain unaware due to their financial backing keeping them politically afloat.”

Omokri suggested that if Obi could broaden his appeal beyond an Igbo-centric approach, encourage his supporters to communicate more persuasively rather than abusively, and acknowledge and apologize for his controversial ‘Yes Daddy’ comment regarding the Muslim community, he would achieve even greater success.
