The House of Representatives has announced plans to engage stakeholders on the four tax reform bills recently transmitted by the Presidency to the National Assembly.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hon. Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, revealed that the House will hold an internal interactive session to discuss the proposed reforms.
According to Hon. Rotimi, the session, scheduled for Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Temporary Chamber of the House of Representatives, will commence at 10:00 a.m.
The session is part of the House’s commitment to fostering robust engagement and informed legislative action on critical policy matters.
“The initiative, championed by the House Leadership, provides Members with a platform to engage directly with key promoters of the tax reform bills from the Executive arm of government,” Hon. Rotimi stated.
He explained that the session will allow lawmakers to seek clarifications, pose critical questions, and gain deeper insights into the proposed reforms.
This understanding is seen as essential for enhancing legislative contributions during deliberations on the bills.
Highlighting the importance of the reforms, Hon. Rotimi noted their potential implications for fiscal policy and governance, emphasizing that the 10th House of Representatives remains committed to advancing national development through transparent and inclusive legislative processes.
While the upcoming session is internal, Hon. Rotimi assured the public that it does not replace the customary public hearing, which will provide an opportunity for public participation and input to shape the reforms effectively.
