Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed strong disapproval regarding the sluggish progress of contractors tasked with the comprehensive reconstruction and landscaping of Okrika Grammar School in the Okrika Local Government Area.
He questioned the education commissioner’s inaccurate report, which claimed that 70 percent of the work had been completed, stating that the actual progress observed was far from this figure.
During a site visit on Monday, Fubara’s frustration was evident.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the visibly displeased governor announced plans to convene a meeting with the contractors to address the issue decisively.
He emphasized the need for adherence to the project specifications and deadlines that were mutually established.
“I have received numerous updates from the Commissioner for Education and, since this is my constituency, I felt compelled to visit the site personally,” Fubara stated.
“Okrika holds significant importance to me, and it is essential to evaluate the quality and extent of the work performed.”
He candidly remarked, “I must be straightforward: I am not satisfied. That is the reality.”
“The commissioner led me to believe that 70 percent of the work was completed, but what I am witnessing here necessitates my direct supervision of this project to ensure that my constituents receive a quality grammar school once again,” he added.
Fubara noted that the initiative aims to revitalize the once-prominent secondary school in the state.
