Prince Owen Mekwa, the Crown Prince of the Ogbakiri Clan in Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, has delivered a strong admonition to Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the 10th Senate, regarding his recent remarks about Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Mekwa advised Akpabio to refrain from engaging in the internal political matters of Rivers State and to concentrate on his duties as a legislator.

During a statement made in Port Harcourt over the weekend, Prince Mekwa expressed his dissatisfaction with comments Akpabio made on December 13, 2024, during the birthday celebration of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Akpabio had implied that Governor Fubara should demonstrate loyalty to his predecessor, Wike.

Branding Akpabio’s remarks as “uncomplimentary and inflammatory,” Mekwa warned against any attempts to interfere in the state’s politics as the 2025 elections approach.

“As a fellow son of the Niger Delta, I expect Senator Akpabio to foster unity rather than contribute to division within the region. We want to emphasize that the people of Rivers will no longer accept interference from politicians based in Abuja,” Mekwa stated.

The Crown Prince praised Governor Fubara for his dedication to fostering peace and progress within Rivers State, encouraging residents to unite in their support for the governor.

“Since taking office 18 months ago, Governor Fubara has honored his social contract with the people of Rivers. His administration has prioritized peace, security, and significant developmental achievements,” he noted.

Mekwa also commended the governor for overseeing the October 5 local government elections without any incidents of violence.

He further urged journalists to remain committed to developmental reporting, holding political leaders accountable, and highlighting the nation’s pressing issues.

“Governor Fubara is propelling Rivers State towards growth and development. I implore the citizens of Rivers to continue their support for his administration as we strive for a more promising future,” Mekwa concluded.
