The Rivers State Police Command has given back the body of SP Bako Angbashim, the murdered Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division, to his family for burial. This handover happened on Saturday during a solemn event at the Police Officers’ Mess in Old GRA, Port Harcourt. At this event, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, praised SP Bako Angbashim highly.
“We are here today to honor SP Bako Angbashim, a true hero who worked tirelessly for this command and fought hard to reduce crime in the state,” he said.
SP Bako Angbashim was known for his dedication and bravery. He played a major role in capturing Boboski, a notorious criminal who had been causing trouble for motorists on the Akwa-Ibom section of the East-West Road. He also restored peace in Bori by fighting against all forms of cultism when he was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) there.
Due to his outstanding work, he was transferred to the Ahoada Division with the mission to capture another dangerous criminal, Gift Opara, also known as 2Baba. SP Angbashim used all his skills and experience to try to catch 2Baba and his gang. Unfortunately, during this mission, he faced a tragic end and was murdered and dismembered.
After this horrifying event, the police initially couldn’t find SP Angbashim’s remains. However, they eventually succeeded in recovering his body.
The Commissioner of Police thanked the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalaiyi Fubara, for his support and for fulfilling his promise of a ₦100 million reward to those who provided information that helped neutralize 2Baba and recover SP Angbashim’s body.
SP Angbashim’s elder brother, Dogo Angbashim, who was present to receive his brother’s remains, expressed his gratitude to the police for bringing the killers to justice.
Until his death in 2023, SP Bako Angbashim served as the DPO of Ahoada East Local Government Area. He was captured and brutally killed by an Iceland cultist group led by Gift Opara, known as 2Baba, in the Oduemude community in Ahoada East on September 8 of the previous year.
