Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has issued a public apology after his controversial social media post sparked negative conversations in the media space.

Umar earlier posted a middle finger on his Instagram story and got the football world angry with him.

Fans had thought the post was aimed at his club which is looking for a way to offload the forward this summer.

Reacting after the post had gone viral, Umar apologised saying: “Apology on my recent post. It was a post by mistake, I didn’t do it intentionally. Am not referring on something or against anyone.
Thank you for your understanding
Y’all should stay blessed”.

The 27-year old who’s a record signing at Real Sociedad is battling with poor form orchestrated by an ACL injury he sustained last season and has seen his playing time limited.

The forward has been in the media for the wrong reason for Nigeria during the African Cup of Nations AFCON tournament in Côte d’Ivoire after he left the Super Eagles camp due to injury but was filmed training with his club a few days later.

Nigeria went on to win silver in that tournament but the memories are believed to have been erased as he has been a longtime member of the Super Eagles squad.
