Dr. Tajudeen Adebayo, an Islamic cleric and Chief Imam of the Falomo Central Mosque in Lagos State, has advised Muslims facing economic hardship not to grieve if they cannot afford a ram for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
In an interview on Friday, he urged those who are able to afford a ram to extend kindness and love to others.
“If the economic situation prevents you from slaughtering a ram this year, do not grieve. Better times will come,” Adebayo said.
“Let those who can afford to sacrifice a ram share their kindness with those who cannot. It’s important to remember that neither the meat nor the blood of the sacrifice reaches Allah; rather, it is the piety behind the act that truly matters.”
He also emphasized the importance of understanding the spiritual significance of the celebration for Muslims’ growth.
“I urge all Muslims to see Eid beyond mere merrymaking,” Adebayo stated. “We should remember the trial of Prophet Ibrahim, which led to this celebration. While the Eid was initially a time of trial, it later became a time of happiness.”
As Muslims worldwide prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir in 2024, Adebayo’s message highlights the importance of compassion and spiritual reflection during the festivities.
