A fierce gun battle erupted between soldiers and bandits in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, leaving scores dead and many injured.
The attack occurred at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano last night, sources confirmed to The Nation.
“Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday,” a source claimed. “The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities.”
Residents fled in panic as constant shootings filled the air, creating a climate of fear and uncertainty.
“We are terrified,” said a resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried, Ehime used to be a serene environment, we don’t know what is happening.” Police and Military authorities were yet to release any statement on the incident.
The shootout is the latest in a series of security breaches in Imo State particularly at the local government, sparking concerns about the escalating violence and its impact on civilians.
