As Kogi State gears up for the local government elections scheduled for October 19, 2024, the Kogi State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has lauded the state Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) for its effective handling of the electoral process.

KOSIEC has released a preliminary list of candidates approved by their respective parties for the upcoming elections. The list, which includes candidates from the SDP, was made public as part of the commission’s commitment to transparency and progress in the electoral process.

Following the release of the list, Hon. Moses Peter Oricha, Chairman of the SDP in Kogi State, commended KOSIEC for its diligent work. He urged the commission to continue its efforts to enhance the electoral system and improve governance in the state.

Hon. Oricha also encouraged the candidates on the SDP list to remain determined and invest fully in their campaigns. He reassured them that the list they are on is the official one endorsed by KOSIEC, as confirmed by a stamped document he received from the commission.

In addition, Hon. Oricha warned Kogites against engaging with the Sam Abenemi-led group, which he claims is not recognized by KOSIEC. He advised those who may have been misled or defrauded by this group to seek refunds from the appropriate authorities.

Previously, Hon. Oricha had expressed concerns about certain individuals he described as outsiders who were allegedly creating confusion within the SDP and misusing the party’s name for personal gain. He highlighted that these individuals were falsely promising KOSIEC forms for the elections.

KOSIEC has pledged to ensure a free, fair, and credible election process as Kogi State prepares for its local government elections.
